Duration: 4 days

A short break to Luosto - a beautiful settlement north of the Arctic Circle, a small ski resort and centre for winter activities which head deep in to the pristine frozen countryside.  This three night holiday - which doesn't necessarily have to be over a weekend - is (arguably) the shortest time we feel it would be worthwhile making the journey to Lapland for. Of course, it can be extended to include more and different activities if you wish. However, if it's a long weekend in the Arctic you are looking for...then this is the itinerary for you.

If there is any free time it should be spent exploring the small hamlet of Luosto and the surrounding area. You are in the middle of some pretty spectacular fell and forest landscape which cries out to be explored and even short walks in to the snow-laden trees will reveal beautiful frozen rivers and glass-like lakes. There are several small shops selling local handicrafts and souvenirs and a couple of restaurants.

Luosto has three accommodation to offer - all very different, all very good and all convenient to the few shops, cafes and restaurants there are dotted around. The largest has the most facilities (swimming pool, spa, several bars..etc) - the Luostotunturi Hotel. Smaller, more boutique in style, is the pleasant and homely Aurora Hotel. There is the possibility of a night in one of their glass-roofed bungalows if you stay here. Finally, there is the cosy village-within-a-village of Tunturi, with those log cabins you dreamed Lapland would be full of!

Our tailor made approach allows you to design your own holiday. This short itinerary has only two full days in Lapland - we cram in as many activities as we can...and these can be swapped around to suit. There is a programme of excursions and adventures operated - all focused on getting you out in to the wilderness -  and we can pick and choose.  Want a more leisurely pace? Feel like turning up the adventure-dial all the way to intrepid? Fine...we can adjust to suit. If you want to add more days in Central Lapland - no problem! All we would say is that everything is subject to availability and flights do get busy. We would recommend that you get in contact and begin the process of booking with us as soon as possible.

Day 1

Fly to Lapland and transfer to the small village of  Luosto. Arrive at your accommodation - Luostotunturi, Aurora Hotel or Tunturi Cabins - and, after dinner, spend the evening on the northern lights trail.

Day 2

The adventure companies we use in Luosto run a weekly timetable of activities which you should book in advance. Following is an itinerary we've devised to create an example of what is possible - however, we will tailor the itinerary to suit your interests. The running order may change, the activities may change, free days can be added, extra safaris can be added in...you get the jist.

Head out by snowmobiles to the husky farm for a dog sledding safari.

Evening dinner out in a Kota, having travelled by snowmobile sleigh.

Day 3

Cross-country skiing in morning...and then keep your gear for the remainder of the day. Alternatively, we can organise a day (or half-day) of downhill skiing on the local ski mountain.

Evening snowmobile safari in to the wilderness.

Day 4

Transfer back to Rovaniemi or Kittilä airport for your flight home.

As a guide, the cost of this itinerary would start from £765 per person - but it all depends on where you choose to stay and how many activities you wish to include. The other major factor is your travel dates, as flight prices can vary depending on seasonaility and availability.

Included in this holiday packages are flights from the UK to either Rovaniemi or Kittilä, six nights accommodation, most meals, cold weather clothing for the duration of your stay, expert local guides and the activities.
