    Arctic Adventure Week

Duration: 7 days

Using the tiny hamlet of Luosto as our base, this week-long holiday is activity heavy. The focus is on tasting all that there is to offer - driving snowmobiles, clipping on skis, mushing huskies, plodding through deep snow in snowshoes and holding the reins of reindeer. But it doesn't have to be adrenalin all the way - we can dial it down (and up!) to suit.

Luosto has three accommodation to offer - all very different, all very good and all convenient to the few shops, cafes and restaurants there are dotted around. The largerest has the most facilities (swimming pool, spa, several bars..etc) - the Luostotunturi Hotel. Smaller, more boutique in style, is the pleasant and homely Aurora Hotel. There is the possibility of a night in one of their glass-roofed bungalows if you stay here. Finally, there is the cosy village-within-a-village of Tunturi, with those log cabins you dreamed Lapland would be full of!

The options for activities are many and varied - Luosto sits with a vast and beautiful arctic playground. We use two different operators locally and they both operate a weekly programme of activities. We've done most ourselves (we've spent an awful lot of time in Luosto!) and are happy to talk you through the options. Luosto is also a ski resort - there are three lifts and seven pistes. Surely worth a morning or afternoon of your time?

Our tailor made approach allows you to design your own holiday. All we would say is that everything is subject to availability and flights get busy. We would recommend that you get in contact and begin the process of booking with us as soon as possible.

Day 1

Fly to Rovaniemi or Kittilä, where you transfer via shuttle coach to Luosto - deep in the Arctic Circle. You then check in to either the Luostotunturi Hotel, the Aurora Hotel or the Tunturi Cabins - which be your home for the week.

You may wish for an early night on this first night, but if you wish to take a walk there is a small lake behind the hamlet, and the path which circumnavigates it is called the northern lights trail.  It makes for a very pleasant evening stroll - on any night - and with any luck the Aurora Borealis will make an appearance to welcome you to Lapland.

Day 2

The adventure companies we use in Luosto run a weekly timetable of activities which you should book in advance. Following is an itinerary we've devised to create an example of what is possible - however, we will tailor the itinerary to suit your interests. The running order may change, the activities may change, free days can be added, extra safaris can be added in...you get the jist.

What better than a introduction to Lapland than by husky safari on your first day.

Day 3

Snowmobile safari out in to the wilderness. You could head out in the morning...or leave it later in the day so enjoy the sunset from the top of a local fell.

Day 4

Cross-country skiing in morning...and then keep your gear for the remainder of the day. Alternatively, we can organise a day (or half-day) of downhill skiing on the local ski mountain.

Head out in to the wilderness for dinner in a Kota.

Day 5

Reindeer safari.

In the evening head out on a northern light hunt by snowmobile.

Day 6

Visit the local amethyst mine.

In the evening join a snowshoe safari under the northern lights.

Day 7

Depart Luosto - you are transferred to the airport for your flight home.

As a guide, the cost of this itinerary would start from £1,645 per person - but it all depends on where you choose to stay and how many activities you wish to include. The other major factor is your travel dates, as flight prices can vary depending on seasonaility and availability. If you choose to spend a night in the glass bungalows at the Aurora Hotel, this will increase the price slightly.

Included in this holiday packages are flights from the UK to either Rovaniemi or Kittilä, six nights accommodation, most meals, cold weather clothing for the duration of your stay, expert local guides and the activities.

Let us know what you want to do - everything can be tailored to suit you…and your budget.
