Overnight stop en route from West to East.

Duration: 4 days

2015 departures - 24 April / 8 May. This is a small group tour.

This 30 mile route will take four fantastic days to cover, passing over the glaciers as you head towards the east coast of Spitsbergen. Get a taste of how the Arctic explorers did it, spend the nights in sturdy mountain tents and pull your own bulk with equipment. This is an expedition for those who feel that skiing Spitsbergen the opposite (east-west) route may be too extreme or time-consuming - not all of us can spare nine days or, quite frankly, have the endurance for that many nights under canvas. That's not to say that this isn't an epic venture for the intrepid - four days of skiing requires that you are physically fit, as you will cover about 10 miles a day carrying a backpack or pulling a sled with equipment. You should be an experienced skier and be ready to camp outdoors in tents during the cold winter. We have two departures, each starting on a Thursday and finishing on a Sunday.

Be aware that the weather can change fairly quickly and the temperature can drop dramatically. The participants are normally split into teams of two and you will either get a sled each or one per team. The sleds contain collective equipment such as tents, portable stoves, food and fuel for the whole trip. The sled weight is about 20 kg. In addition you will have your personal equipment which can either be carried in a backpack or packed in a sled. Participants are expected to take part in setting up camp and cooking.

Different Snow can organise hotels, transfers and pre/post arrangements in Longyearbyen.
