    The Snowmobile Safari

Duration: 5 days

This safari /expedition  follows are more sedate pace  - it's all about getting out in to the wilderness surrounding Luosto on snowmobiles and taking time to enjoy the peaceful frozen wilderness of Lapland. Daily driving distances are reasonable (average 70 miles per day), so this safari is suitable most people. Prior experience on a snow mobile is obviously preferred, but certainly not essential. Accommodation varies from hotel rooms or cabins (2 overnights) to shared old fashioned accommodation in Lumberjack’s house (1 overnight ) and to simple, but cosy, cabins in Lokka (1 overnight).

You could extend you stay with time in the small ski resort of Luosto - there are decent hotels a-plenty and so many other activities to enjoy.

We need a minimum of five guests to operate this safari. All the necessary equipment is provided (thermo-overall, mittens, socks, boots, balaclava & helmet) and insurance for the snowmobile is covered. However, the driver of the snowmobile is held liable for damages caused to the vehicle to a max of €800. You must hold a valid driving license to take the controls and there can be no passengers.

 

Day 1

Arrival to Rovaniemi airport, transfer to Luosto resort. Overnight in a well-equipped log cabin (Tunturi Cabins),  Luostotunturi Hotel or Aurora Hotel. Dinner in a local restaurant.

Day 2

Breakfast. Change of clothes into safari equipment, and there will be a briefing on both safety and security. The snowmobile safari begins with a route out across forests and marshes northwards, during the day lunch will be enjoyed in Lappish teepee around an open fire. After about 65 miles drive arrival to old wooden house which was previously used by lumberjacks. Sauna and toilets are outside; water must be carried in. Dinner is prepared and served by the safari guides. It's shared facilities and dorm-like accommodation.

Day 3

Breakfast in the forest house. Today learning about traditional winter fishing: safari together with guides to small wilderness lake nearby where fishing through ice holes. Lunch during the day. After lunch safari continues to small Lappish village, Lokka. Overnight in cabins and dinner at reindeer farmers home. During the evening there is the possibility to drive a reindeer.

Day 4

Breakfast at Lokka. Safari turns back to south towards Luosto area; lunch will be enjoyed on the way. In the afternoon arrival back to Luosto where sauna and overnight stay in well equipped log cabins or in hotel rooms in double rooms. Farewell dinner will be enjoyed in restaurant.

Day 5

After breakfast transfer to Rovaniemi airport for your flights home.

Approximately three weeks before travel you will receive your travel documents. We will also provide additional information, such as restaurant recommendations, cultural notes, packing lists and one or two home-spun guides - created through our personal experience.

5. Tell your friends about Different Snow

It is important to us that your holiday exceeds your expectations! Different Snow will continue to grow through personal recommendations and word of mouth and, therefore, it is essential to us that you have a great holiday. We want you to travel with us again. Once you've returned we want to hear all about it and we'll certainly encourage you to tell all your friends!
