    A week-long snowmobile safari

Duration: 7 days

The ultimate snowmobile adventure in Finland, starting in Western Lapland and heading all the way up to the Arctic Sea in Norway.  This itinerary involves long daily driving distances and requires a degree of stamina, combined with a spirit of adventure. Previous experience on a snowmobile is not essential, but would be a beneficial. Expect to cover between 60 and 150 miles a day and some of the accommodation along the way is in basic cabins - comfortable...but without many creature comforts.

We need a minimum of five people to operate this trip. It will be on a private basis - just you and your guide. Your personal luggage will be taken with you on the snowmobile - so, as little as possible in soft bags. They really should not be too heavy.

All the necessary equipment is provided (thermo-overall, mittens, socks, boots, balaclava & helmet) and insurance for the snowmobile is covered. However, the driver of the snowmobile is held liable for damages caused to the vehicle to a max of €800. You must hold a valid driving license to take the controls and, for trips of this duration there are no pillion passengers.

Day 1

Arrival to Rovaniemi airport. Transfer to the ski resort of Luosto, north of the Arctic Circle. Dinner and overnight stay will either be in one of the hotels or in well-equipped cottages. Your safari equipment and clothing will be fitted and handed out.

Day 2

After breakfast, you will be given instruction on how to handle your snowmobile and safety & security will be covered. Head out on tracks in to the wilderness (one person to a snowmobile) following a route north. Lunch will be en route. Late in the afternoon you arrive in Lokka, where accommodation is in cabins and dinner will be at a reindeer farmer’s home.

Day 3

Breakfast in Lokka. Today the safari continues east via the Saariselkä-fell area and on to Inari Lake. Lunch will be on the way, in a small restaurant. Overnight at a guest house, which also has a sauna and restaurant.

Day 4

After breakfast, the expedition continues further north; camp lunch during the day. Cross the Norwegian border and arrive at Neiden Fjellstue. Sauna, dinner and overnight stay in simple cabins.

Day 5

Breakfast and today the safari will be led by both Norwegian and Finnish guides. You finally reach the Arctic Ocean and to celebrate you will actually go for a swim...but in a dry rescue-suit. But soon it is time to start the journey back and after lunch in Fjellstue, the safari gets back to Finland. In the evening you arrive in Saariselkä, where a sauna, dinner and hotel awaits.

Day 6

Breakfast and then point your snowmobiles south, with lunch en route. This is one the longest driving days of the week. Eventually you'll arrive back in Luosto - where a relaxing hot sauna and farewell dinner have been well-earned. Stay in one of the hotels or in a cabin - this is the most luxurious it's been since the first night.
