This tour departs from Longyearbyen every Tuesday during the dark winter only (January & February), getting you back in to town on the Thursday.

Organised by the team at Green Dogs Husky, who are based about six miles into the Advent Valley, this safari offers a wonderful introduction to expedition dogsledding. Everyone gets to harness the dogs and prepare their kit, with two participants sharing each sled. The route follows the wide, beautiful Adventdalen, which grows ever narrower as you head inland, towards the mountains. You do not need any previous experience with dog sledding, but you really should be in reasonable shape. During the trip, you will be asked to help out with feeding the dogs, and muck in with all the required preparations for the day. Your experienced guide is responsible for the safety of guests, and will bring all necessary safety equipment.

Day 1

After a morning getting to know the dogs and learning the protocols of driving, you don't arrive at the Expedition Lodge in Brentskaret until the afternoon. From the cabin you can enjoy the wild landscape – a snow-covered universe where hunters and trappers have lived and hunted throughout history.

Day 2

The next day youl head towards Sassendalen and into the snowmobile-free area of Trehøgddalen - but this stage must be adapted to the weather and snow conditions. The dogs are excited to be out in the wilderness, and we will soon become more familiar with their individual characters. Later in the afternoon you will return to the lodge, and help to unharness and feed the dogs before a hot meal and cosy evening in the warm cabin. After so many new experiences and a whole lot of fresh Arctic air, you are bound to get a good night's sleep!

Day 3

On the last day you will head back towards Longyearbyen, taking a different route to day one, and will stop by a cabin in Foxdalen to eat a light lunch. The last stage takes you back to Green Dog, where we say good bye to our new four legged friends. You will be back at the hotel in Longyearbyen at around 3:30pm.

This two night / three day expedition costs £1,050 per person and this price includes outdoor clothing (mittens, facemask/balaclava, thick hat, goggles, winter shoes and thermal suit), accommodation for two nights at Expedition Lodge, meals during the trip, shared equipment and an experienced guide with all necessary safety equipment, as well as search and rescue insurance.
