Let’s walk you through the three options - the base village up at Cerro Catedral has plenty of ski-in, ski-out options that can match most budgets (top to bottom), but if you value a bit more atmosphere and buzz, then you really should be looking at Bariloche itself, just 20-minutes away. Alternatively, you’ve got the hotels and lodges along the Nahuel Huapi lake shore – a different experience all together.

Whereas most people staying up at the Cerro Catedral area have dinner in their hotel, you will also find that you have a choice of restaurants and several bars. However, its fair to say that it’s reasonably quiet and laid-back of an evening. You’ll want for nothing, but there’s no craziness when the sun goes down. Of course the huge advantage is that staying here you are only ever a short walk to the lifts.

Bariloche itself is a fun town. The downside is the short ride to the slopes, the upside is the choice of hotels, the outstanding restaurants and nightlife and the fact that Bariloche is … well, Bariloche!

And the third option is one of the hotels located along the lake (on the way to Cerro Catedral) , which have the incredible views to the surrounding mountains and an un-paralleled tranquil, romantic atmosphere. However, you’re somewhat marooned and we’d need to talk you through getting both the ski mountain and in to the town. The better resort hotels provide shuttles.

Up at Cerro Bayo, there are plans afoot, backed by massive investment, to convert the base area into an on-mountain village. Until this happens, then you’ll find yourself staying in or near Villa la Angostura, where there are plenty of characterful options in this village or on the north shore of Lake Nahuel Huapi.
