Nestled amidst lush gardens a short walk to the bustling centre of San Pedro de Atacama, the Hotel Altiplanico is a charming boutique hotel under the shadow of the ancient pre-Inca fortress of Pukara de Quito.
Overlooking the distant Volcano Licancabur, the hotel blends seamlessly into the landscape and recreates the classic look of an Atacameno village. Constructed with natural materials, hand-crafted adobe bricks complement exposed beams and thatch roofs while inside the hotel exudes rustic elegance throughout with carefully chosen regional handicrafts. The construction is in fact a clever hybrid of indigenous culture and colonial Spanish style.
There are 29 simple rooms within separate houses, ethnic in feel yet comfortable and spacious, each individually styled. Superior rooms are larger with a more contemporary finish though each features a private terrace, some with an outdoor shower.
The hotel’s small restaurant offers an authentic mix of highland Peruvian, Chilean and Atacamenan cuisine focusing on fresh local produce such as quinoa, purple potatoes, scallops, chanar and Indian corn.
Three blocks away from downtown on the road to the Pukará de Quitor. It is an ideal location, not so far away from town but also not too near.
