Depending upon conditions, the heli-skiing runs can vary from 700 metres to 1,200 metres of vertical powder bliss. And unlike more expensive multi-day heliski operators in Chile, Portillo has the major advantage of providing the flexibility to ski or board as much as your wallet or thighs will allow. We'll try, but it's not always possible confirm your heli-skiing before you get to Portillo. It’s sometimes a challenge and we can certainly make the request in advance - but we'd recommend that you chase and re-confirm your reservation the moment you arrive.
To get you backcountry and to show off the hidden stashes on the mountain we can organise instruction and / or guides. Indeed, the hotel sometimes offers week-long ''programmes' for the advanced skier, including a 'Ski With The Superstars' week in August - only open to a maximum of thirty skiers, high-profile professional coaches will take your skiing to the next level with expert coaching on the skills of steep skiing, terrain recognition and management, proper mechanics, as well as good old powder skiing techniques.
On the Sunday night at the beginning of the ‘ski week’ the hotels’ owner hosts a welcome cocktail party – a great opportunity to meet the other guests and the friendly team who run the resort, on and off the mountain. Also the Ski School Director gives talks about ski equipment or ski techniques every Sunday night at 7pm in the cinema.
To compliment the long list of facilities at the hotel, they also have a daily programme of activities that are generally in the late afternoon and evening. Examples include card games, aerobics and yoga classes, wine tasting, children’s games, torch light parades, and special events such as fashion shows. The hotel also publishes a timetable of movies shown in the cinema - get there early to score a comfy beanbag.
