Finland is a three hour flight away, and then it's a further hour up to Lapland. Therefore, with total journey times of circa five-hours, it's just about possible for a long ski-weekend. However, for us it makes more sense as a perfect week-long ski holiday, but that's not to say that there isn't enough to keep you entertained for 10 days or two weeks. Particularly when combined with a winter multi-activity holiday...
You need to bear in mind how much there is to do in Lapland - away from the ski hills. This is the ultimate Arctic playground. Why not combine your ski holiday with a multi-activity experience in the wilderness? Different Snow are also specialists in winter activity holidays to Lapland - for a comprehensive overview of what's on offer you should look here. We organise holidays to wilderness lodges and remote cabins, heading out on snowmobiles, dog-sledges and wearing snowshoes...often under the northern lights. Why not combine the two experiences?
From Levi and Ylläs you could visit any one of the nearby wilderness lodges - Harriniva, Jeris and Torassieppi. We can organise transfers between the resort, the lodge and then put together a programme of activities.
From Saariselkä, then world-famous Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort is quite literally just down the road, where you cans pend a night in a glass-igloo or in the snow hotel. Further up the road is the Aurora Resort in Inari - particularly good for snowmobile adventures - and, miles away from any civilisation is Korpikartano Wilderness Lodge.
If the balance is more in favour of winter activity, but you don't want to completely sacrifice the ski then we would wholeheartedly introduce a new option to you - Luosto. The ski hill is small - not large enough to warrant inclusion in this ski-focussed section of the website, but there is enough to blow away the cobwebs and the setting for safaris out on to the wilderness is second-to-none. You could stay at the Luostotunturi Hotel, the Aurora Hotel or in the impossibly pretty Tunturi Cabins.
For us, five nights in a ski resort followed by five nights at a wilderness lodge, enjoying all the Arctic activities is the perfect holiday. Of all time. Ever.
