This precious little family-run lodge nestles in the woods of Kitanomine, just a few minutes’ walk from the main gondola. Homely rather than luxurious, if you like your lodgings a little on the quirky side, with lots of warmth and character, you can’t go wrong with Phytoncide Guest House; many loyal snow-seekers return year after year. The antique Japanese cash registers are a Phytoncide specialty. Why not?

The large rooms sleep two in twin Western beds and have spotless private bathrooms. Everyone has access to communal laundry facilities and ski storage downstairs. Reasonable rates are inclusive of a tasty Japanese/Western dinner prepared by your hosts – just let them know if you fancy heading out instead, they won't be offended. Though it isn’t technically a ryokan, Phytoncide has a lovely Japanese feel, where peace and quiet, a restful atmosphere and lovingly-prepared food are paramount.
