The Advanced Liberation Area in Tomamu

Tomamu Ski Resort is just over an hour away from Furano - and well worth the trip. Our trips leave Furano at 8am and will get you back to town - exhausted - for 5.30pm. It's the must-do day out from Furano.

The resort has 11 lifts and covers two mountains. There are beginner slopes, groomed trails galore and a well-maintained terrain park (better than Furano's). There are no über-steep pitches, but with such great powder and empty slopes (during the mid-week) it's tremendous fun. However, it is the fully-sanctioned off-piste tree skiing within resort boundaries that you are here for, in the 'Advanced Liberation Area'. You have to sign in, they'll check you have a helmet on and you must wear a lovely fluorescent 'bib'...but who cares when it's this good?!

The twin-tower Galleria Hotel in the base area is wonderful, with saunas, jacuzzis and wave pools.
