Images of the snow monkeys of Jigokudani have become synonymous with Japan, but nothing beats meeting the cheeky chappies for real – especially where children are concerned. Your guide will pick you up after breakfast and drive you to the valley, before a short hike to the natural hot springs where the monkeys bathe each day. Afterwards, there will be chance to visit the ancient, picturesque town of Obuse to see the museum dedicated to artist resident Hokusai, before a traditional banquet at the nearby Masuchui sake brewery. Zenkoji Temple, the Buddhist treasure that housed the first Buddha image in Japan, will be the last stop.
