Duration: 11 days

The northernmost island of Japan is the snowiest place you'll ever be fortunate enough to visit. This itinerary features four resorts (the best four? - we think so), with five nights in Niseko and five nights in Furano. You visit Rusutsu for a quieter alternative experience from Niseko and head to Asiahadake for a day of powder bliss from Furano. Extend you itinerary with time in Tokyo or Kyoto on Honshu Island on the way home?

Day 1

Arrive in Sapporo Chitose Airport and transfer to Niseko, where you check in to your accommodation in Hirafu or Niseko Village.

Day 2 - 4

Three days skiing in Niseko. On a fresh powder day, take the shuttle bus across to Moiwa for a day in the un-tracked snow.

Day 5

Whilst still based in your Niseko accommodation, take an excursion over to Rusutsu - all together quieter and with amazing glade skiing on offer.

Day 6

Transfer over to Furano, right in the centre of Hokkaido Island. Check in to your accommodation and explore the authentic city on your doorstep.

Days 7 - 9

Ski the perfect groomers of Furano. One day you should get up early to take a hot air balloon ride over the valley, before your day on the slopes.

Day 10

Whilst still based in Furano, take a day trip to Asiahadake for the best day's skiing of your life. A single cable car allows access to the best imaginable backcountry. If Asiahadake pushes you beyond your comfort zone, then consider Kamui or Tomamu instead.

Day 11

Transfer to Sapporo Chitose Airport for your flights home....or down to Honshu for a several days in Tokyo or Kyoto. Or both?

Obviously, cost depends on which accommodation you choose, how many excursions and activities you want to book, whether you wish to include ski hire and lift passes…etc. An indicative lead-in price for this 11-day itinerary would be circa £995 (¥175,000) per person, based on 3 or 4 star accommodation (low season), transfers & lift passes.
