Ice carvings in the Sapporo Ice Festival

The second week of February, every year.

Lose yourself in a winter wonderland at Odori Park in Sapporo, where the park is lined with perfectly detailed snow and ice sculptures during the annual Ice Festival. Along with the Harbin Snow & Ice Festival in China, this is the major international ice-carving event, featuring intricate pieces of art as well as massive snow sculptures that are bigger than some of the city buildings. The theme of the statues varies and often features an event, famous building or person from the previous year.

Tours tend to leave Niseko in the afternoon and include transport to the city (less than two hours) and a guide will accompany the group. The highlight is in the early evening, when colourful lights illuminate the sculptures and the surrounding area.
