If you’ve chosen Nozawa, chances are you’re keen to see more of the region than the ski slopes. After breakfast, head off with your guide to meet Japan’s much-loved bathing snow monkeys before visiting the village of Uchiyama for a look at the ancient Japanese art of paper-making. You could even try your hand at making postcards, business cards or posters. There’ll be time for a delicious local lunch before the Takahash Museum of Doll Art in the attractive temple-dotted town of Iiyama, where Mayumi Takahashi’s dolls depict the changing rural culture of Japan. Your guide will then introduce you to the novelties of a typical Japanese supermarket before a well-earned dinner at a characterful conveyor belt sushi restaurant or popular Chinese.
