Rising from the snow like a Tokyo sky-rise, Rusutsu Resort Hotel’s more adult-friendly sister is a good choice if you like the idea of making fresh tracks from Rusutsu....but you’d rather side-step the glitz. Rusutsu Tower is an all-suite option closer to East Mountain, connected with the rest of the resort and West Mountain by monorail. Instead, however, you could take the nearby chair lift up East Mountain and be in the powdery haven that is Mount Isola in no time.
The accommodation – a range of one and two bedroom suites sleeping up to seven people – is spacious and comfortable. There’s a relaxing onsen with an outdoor hot spring, as well as a day spa offering replenishing treatments. The tower has several dining options, including Japanese, Chinese and Western; and for more choice you can just hop across on the mono-rail to the Resort Hotel.
The Rusutsu Tower Hotel sits between East Mountain and West Mountain. It is directly connected to the East Mountain (which is connected to Mt Isola – the area for powder hounds) via a pair chair lift, and connected to the Rusutsu Resort Hotel and West Mountain via the little monorail.
If you have small kids then the Rusutsu Resort Hotel is a better location for access to the beginner slopes, the kids snow park and other hotel facilities. If you are a larger group or family particularly with bigger kids, the Tower is fine.
The Rusustu Tower is officially a five star hotel. Rates can inculde just breakfast or also include dinner in anyt one of the many restaurants, including those in Rusutsu Resort. For two persons, indicative prices range from about ¥32,500 (£190) per room per night during the lowest season, to ¥55,000 (£320) for a room during the peak periods, with dinner also included in the rate.
