Base elevation: 400 metres

Top elevation: 994 metres

Number of lifts: 18

Number of runs: 37

Access: Fly to Sapporo Chitose Airport, direct from Hong Kong or via Tokyo or Osaka for everyone else. From the airport it's only a 90 minute coach transfer to Rusutsu. We can also organise private transfers.

With endless powder, great off-piste skiing, tree skiing and an excellent lift infrastructure Rusutsu has much to be envious of. Different Snow can include transfers, equipment hire, ski school, guiding, backcountry tours (including heli-skiing), activities, and excursions, in your package. The price you pay will be at best be cheaper, at worst be the same, as what you would pay locally. Booking what you can in advance is advised- whereas it is not as busy as close-by Niseko, availability can sometimes be a problem.

Unless you are on a day trip from Niseko, you will stay in the Rusutsu Resort complex (East Wing, West Wing or Tower) and this is where all the facilities are. It's all super-convenient and all well sign-posted in English. There is no shortage of restaurants within complex, and there are also various small traditional Japanese restaurants near the base of the mountain. Reservations can be made locally, as they usually are not needed apart from over peak periods.

Senior rates are applicable for anyone over 60 and Child rates encompass ages from 4-12. There is a single, flat rate across the season. Following are indicative costs:

One Day JPY 5,500
One Day (Child) JPY 2,750
One Day (Senior) JPY 4,600
Four Days JPY 19,400
Four Days (Child) JPY 9,700
Four Days (Senior) JPY 15,500

Whether you're a beginner or seasoned powder hound, there is an extensive range of high quality Salomon, Atomic & Burton skis, snowboards, boots and poles.  Prices are not cheap (by Japanese standards) but the quality of the equipment is reflected in the rates. Children get 25% off the following indicative prices:

Four Days Standard Kit (ski, poles & boots) JPY 16,500
Four Days High Performance Kit (ski, poles & boots) JPY 24,900
Helmet (per day) JPY 1,700

The are excellent classes for absolute beginners (or, level two - almost beginner), for both adults and child. However, the set-up for anyone else is for private lessons in two or four hour blocks. These could be one-to-one or with a maximum of eight participants, assuming you are all of similar ability. We recommend that lessons are pre-booked.

Beginner Group Lesson (2 hours) JPY 4,500
Beginner Group Lesson (4 hours) JPY 7,200
Private Lesson One-To-One (2 hours) JPY 17,300
Private Lesson One-To-One (4 hours) JPY 29,300
Private Lesson Group Of Four (2 hours) JPY 21,600
Private Lesson Group Of Four (4 hours) JPY 34,600

We know the best backcountry guides working in the Rusutsu region. Quite probably, it will involve someone travelling over from Niseko - as far as they are concerned this is all one common area.

By 'best' we mean; knowledgeable, most safety conscious and experienced. These guys live for getting out in to the back bowls and scaling the peaks. Let us know your level of interest, your ability and your experience and we'll hire the right kit (if required), set you up with the right guide and let you get on with it.
