Delightfully art deco, but with a kitsch twist, DeBrett’s is pure sensory overload. Right in the heart of Auckland's centre, this was one of the first hotels in the city (established in 1841) and remains, to this day, it’s coolest. The House Bar has stories to tell and a late night drink here with the regulars will allow you to reveal its secrets.
Once you’ve used the copper-domes lift to get to our room, you’ll find vibrant colours and retro 70’s furniture. It works! The 25 spacious rooms and suites, each has its own distinctive style and mood, most stroking being the Paul Smith-esque bespoke carpet, which are actually hand woven 100% New Zealand wool. Bathrooms have divinely deep baths in most rooms, and stand alone showers with both rain and slide shower heads, salon quality hair dryers, underfloor heating, magnifying mirrors, mirror demisters and both velvet and towelling robes. Rooms include a LCD flat screen TV, DVD player and Tivoli radio.
The Kitchen Restaurant is a L-shaped area with a New York loft-style atrium with a rustic, brick interior, and an open kitchen, next to an inviting fireplace in an adjoining sofa-strewn space. The 24-hour guests-only Drawing Room is a laid-back spot to read, retrieve emails (there’s a laptop for guests’ use) or relax while enjoying a drink from the honesty bar.
Every evening they host ccomplementary pre-dinner drinks in the drawing room between 6.30 and 7pm.
