A super-luxury lodge in a remote spot, appearing to simply float above the tranquil waters of Lake Wanaka. Whare Kea is a all about intimate luxury, sublime food, panoramic views and an immaculate attention to detail. There are only six gorgeous rooms, which are then complimented by a unique mountain chalet on the edge of Mt Aspiring National Park overlooking the Southern Alps – this lodge can be used as a heli-skiing base.
The main lodge is set on a hilltop overlooking the lake, an extremely private setting from where the views are simply breathtaking - particularly in winter when all is white. The huge, luxurious open-plan living room and dining area offers floor-to-ceiling windows, which puts you in the landscapes. Carefully chosen art work from local artists gives each room an individual feel, as well as enhancing the overall grace and style of the lodge.A gorgeous outdoor hot tub is the perfect way to unwind at the end of the day, before sitting down to a delicious evening meal served by the lodge chef.
The mountain chalet is remote, intimate and utterly exclusive. It is a 20-minute helicopter flight (35km) from Wanaka Township and there are two double bedrooms, a spacious loft and a bunk room for staff - it accommodates up to six guests and two staff. It took two years of challenges and courage to construct this oasis in the sky, with everything flown in by helicopter.
